I was amazed at the beauty of The Palouse when I saw it. I grew up in farm country in NY state and Pennsylvania so seeing fields of crops was a pretty common sight for me. But this, this takes farming and farm lands to a whole new level of beauty. It was like driving through a painting, or in the case of the canola fields it was as if I had been dropped into the 'Wizard of Oz' and the fields of poppies.(without the really sleepy feeling) No wonder there are dozens of photo tours and workshops, I ran into a couple of them, it is so visually rich here!

Anyway, this image was made just before sunset at Steptoe Butte. You can really appreciate the contour of the land and the different crops from the elevation of the butte. I was there in the early Summer when several types of wheat are growing, and the Canola was in full bloom covering the land in bands of bright yellow. Spectacular! And amongst the humps and bumps and long shadows is one lone red barn. Perfect.
