Las Vegas. Downtown.
Maybe I'm being hasty, too judgmental, maybe it's a conflict of values and worldview. I know that it some ways I am very rigid and should learn to loosen up a little...but I really can't stand Las Vegas. I was there one time for a few days and if I never go back it'll be just fine by me.
Visually it really is a photographers paradise, there is something interesting and colorful and glitzy everywhere you look. People from all walks of life wearing all sorts of clothing and riding in some really cool cars, in some ways it's more like a giant movie set than a city. But lost in the glamour and glitz of Vegas is the population of homeless and street people.
So here's the preachy part. I get it, the climate is good for people who live mostly outdoors. People do well in the casinos and feel (some of them anyway) compelled to share with a guy in obvious need, so the panhandlers have a legit chance of getting a crazy good handout. It's a crazy place with a wacko dichotomous culture where the stars perform and rake in millions and a hundred yards away sit the homeless hoping for a dollar. I don't really think there is any fix for it...it just makes me sad.
At least this guy took a creative approach to his craft, I didn't give him any money but he did see me shoot his sign and gave me a 'thumbs up'.
