I confess, I feel a little bit like I cheated getting this image. In my defense I will say that this is yet another example of using my formula; go pretty places, be there when the light is good, compose/execute carefully. However, I don't usually get to park my camper exactly on that spot!
Just west of Page Arizona is Wahweap resort and RV park. It sits on the southern bank of Lake Powell within sight of Glen Canyon Dam and the town of Page. Up early every day I routinely stepped out my camper in the morning, coffee in hand, and watched the sun come up over the lake. I noticed how the sunlight would backlight the golden leaves in the trees, and promised myself that I would find a vantage point ahead of time so that if we had a gorgeous sunrise with clouds, I would be prepared.
The weather was predicted to turn cloudy for a couple of days so I made sure I had my kit ready to go. Sure enough, the sun popped through a cloud just after sunrise, directly over Antelope Canyon, and gave me this spectacular scene. I made my exposures 200 feet from my camper, still with a fresh cup of coffee in my hand. So many images over the years have required so much more effort than this one, I'll take a 'freebie' when I can!
