Moonrise over The Catalina's
I did not set out to create an homage to Ansel Adams nor to copy one of his more famous works. I simply kept track of the coming moon and the time of moonrise. I went to this spot deliberately to capture the moonrise while there was still a bit of sunlight over my shoulder. I get lost in moments like this, watching the shadows creep east across the valley floor and then up the mountainside as the moon goes rises and heads west. I stuck around this location long enough that darkness made the hike back to the truck a challenge.
It wasn't until the next day when I processed this image that I felt an odd familiarity...had I made this photo before? It didn't take long before I thought of 'Moonrise, Hernandez, New Mexico' by Ansel Adams. His is better, ahem..
